Yes, you should wear a suit instead of just a santa hat.  We won't turn you away, but you will feel out of place.  Santa knows its been a down economy. He laid off over 300 elves last year, but still maintains the highest level of elf employmenet over Keebler and Wonka.  As such, when Santa finds a cheap suit, he wants to let you know about it. 

Early reports are that Walgreens has whole suits (coat, pants, hat and boot covers) for $15.  No doubt manufactured in China and lined with Lead, these cheap suits will be perfect for you drunk santas. 

So get to Walgreens and buy one.  Only 2 weeks left until Santarchy!

Santa has his elfs printing this years Lanyards.  These are special edition, one time issued collectable pieces.  The lanyards are available at the first stop during santarchy for a $10 donation.  The money will go to toys for tots, and the lanyard will go into history. 

Remember, order your santa suits online NOW or head to party city USA in Toledo or Taylor for a cheap suit.

Santa's just waking up from his long summer nap.  He's making his bar list and checking to see if The Loft will be open. 

For those keeping track, Monroe Santarchy will take place on Dec 11th this year.  Moving to two weeks before christmas will help Santa get over his hangover before delivering that coal you deserve. 

Not many updates right now, Santa's in the off season watching the Tigers.  Note that MonroeSantarchy'10 will take place on December 11th. Watch this page after halloween for more updates.

I've heard a few rumors that someone else is starting a santarchy in downtown Monroe on Dec 12th. My limited contact tells me there should be 10 santas starting at Beeks at 9:30 or so.

I don't know these individuals personally, but I assume that much like me, they attended Detroit's Santarchy and decided to expand into Monroe. They just didn't google it first ;) The reason they chose Dec 12th is because Dec 19th (my date) is the same as Detroit's. They appear to wish to attend both. I'm not sure Santa's liver can handle two santarchys in the same month.

I hope to continue contact with this group and next year, I plan to move Monroe Santarchy to two saturday's before christmas to avoid further conflict with Detroit's date. This will allow those with medical insurance the ability to attend both Monroe and Detroit, and bring all santarchy fans into the Monroe fold.

Santa's ready. His flasks are loaded with Oatmeal Cookies and his bag is filled with PBR. On Dec 19th, 2009 an estimated 70+ Santa's will decend on downtown Monroe. 

A few notes:

• Nobody wants a drunk and belligerent santa. Please be respectful of the patrons and establishment owners. Any over indulgence or unnecessary debauchery will get you kicked out of the crawl.
• Please designate a driver. Or call a cab. All lanyards will have phone numbers for both a cab and a downtown hotel. Drinking and driving will end you on the state's naughty list at best, and in jail for manslaughter at worst. Just don't do it.
  
• As the event expands, more and more attention will be paid to Santarchy. This can be a good thing (when asked, explain that this is for charity) and bad (please don't puke on the sidewalks).  Bad publicity will end this quickly with both police attention and bars turning us away.
  
• Finally - HAVE FUN. That's the point of this exercise anyway!
